Monthly summary #4
That was a real rollercoaster for me this month. I went from passing certs, through the actual flood during my holidays, to slow recuperation at home with long-standing to-do reading. Here’s a short monthly summary of what I have done in September.

AWS
I have covered this topic extensively in the previous monthly summary, so I will be brief here. I have managed to pass AWS Dev Associate certification on 3rd of September. That concluded almost three months of study and preparation.
Life in a nutshell
As I have mentioned in the introduction, I actually was witness to the flood. I started my holidays on the 8th of September, and just in four days, the weather forecast went from not-that-great to tragedy. Poland’s south-west mountain part was experiencing heavy rains for over a week. The amount of water that usually falls from the sky in a six month period, happened to accumulate in one week. On top of that, our southern neighbor – Czechia – suffered a similar fate. Therefore, after I managed to walk circa 160km, I decided to withdraw.
Looking back that was the only decision I could make, and it was a wise one. Several cities (I was supposed to visit them upon my route) were seriously damaged. In short – it was a tragedy. Pure tragedy and disaster.
After I’ve been back home, I tried to get some time off, and I think I managed to do that. Which was a good thing because just right after I did what I had planned for quite some time – I quit my job. I wasn’t working per-se for quite some time already, however, the contract was still binding. With the clear termination, I have now free hand to get a job that will give me what I want right now. And that’s personal growth, interesting people to work with and challenges to overcome. I applied for the actual position yesterday 😉
Reading, reading, reading
Besides all the above, I have slowed down for the rest of the month. There were already a couple of books that I wanted to read for a while or I was finishing at the time. I won’t go into much details here – below you can find links to the reviews of the specific ones.
- “Fundamentals of Data Engineering” book review
- “Philosophy of software design” book review
- “Java concurrency in practice” book review
What’s next?
Hard to say. For sure most of my efforts will be dedicated to being hired. Along the way I am going to continue in two areas – catching up with SQL using PostgreSQL as a training tool. I am planning on reading “Practical SQL 2ed.” with supplementary help from the online PostgreSQL administration course (only in Polish, with 5 weekly lessons). That’s to refresh my memory about querying the DB. I feel like I need to update my knowledge in this area.
The second thing will be Python – I have done lots of learning of it, now it’s time to get my hands dirty with more serious projects. Not only codewars/leetcode small programs, but with the actual larger ones. Here, I will be finishing “Python Crash Course 3ed” and its chapters about real-world projects (there are three projects used there), and if the time allows I will go back to roguelike 😉
