Weekly summary #15
Summary of the fifteenth week of my #SeniorDevRevamp project. As my holidays were interrupted, this week I tried to somehow get some rest while being at home.

ToggleOverall summary
I am back home, and had some thinking to do concerning the next steps. The most important thing here is that… I terminated my current contract. I wasn’t working per-se since July – hired, but not assigned to any project. That’s the reason for the whole #SeniorDevRevamp project being so intense. If you thought that I am able to pass 3 certs in a row with lots of additional lecture while keeping a daily job – thank you for thinking I am some overman 😉 However, that was not the case – the time I usually spend at work was dedicated to learning.
With all my holidays done, and planned certs passed, it was time to move on. There is an ongoing process to get a job that will fulfill all my needs and let me put in practice my core values. In general – that is my goal now. Not to concentrate that much on the company’s name, salary, perks or whatnot, but to develop myself. Both as a developer, and a human being. With the crafted improvement process, and challenges along the way. No more “I am cosy in my small hole” situations.
What about technical stuff?
As my holidays were interrupted, I felt the need to ease up a little. Therefore, the total amount of work I did last week was not that big – especially comparing to July and August. However, I still got some work done – in the area of Python, Java concurrency and software design. The details can be found in the day-to-day summary.
What’s next?
I don’t plan to start anything big, in terms of new certification paths or projects. I am giving myself some time to get a new job, and continue #SeniorDevRevamp project based on the demands of my new position (or maybe start a new project, who knows). There are things that I’ve signed for in advance (like PostgreSQL administration course that will start next week). I also got some remaining books/topics that I would like to revisit. However, all of that is not aimed to be a demanding or long-term commitments. That concludes this week’s summary.
Day by day summary
- 16-09-2024: ANKI as usual. I started reading “Python Crash Course 3rd ed.” in order to get back into Python. Went through all the introductory chapters (11 of them). Read two chapters of the classic – “Java concurrency in practice”, as this book was too long on my to-read list already.
- 17-09-2024: ANKI to keep up with the flow. Additional two chapters from “Java concurrency in practice”. As a leisure activity I have started reading “A Philosophy of Software Design” by John Ousterhout.
- 18-09-2024: It was really busy day for me personally, so the only thing I did were ANKIs.
- 19-09-2024: ANKI in the morning. Read another chapter from “Java concurrency in practice”, and a couple from “A Philosophy of Software Design”
- 20-09-2024: Same day as yesterday.
- 21-09-2024: Did only ANKI to keep the momentum going. Took the rest of the the day off.
- 22-09-2024: ANKI in the morning. As every weekend I have spent some time catching up with all the newsletters/RSS that I subscribe to. Not to make things easy I have also read a couple of chapters from “A Philosophy of Software Design”.
